Pauline married John Werny on November 19,1872, in Houston, Texas. Pauline and her husband both died of tuberculosis in 1881, just days apart. They left their three young children: John, Mary, and Angela, who were taken in by Pauline's brother, Julius Rosentreter, and his wife, Wilhelmine.
