HAMMONS, THELMA ELAINE ROSENTRETER, of Pelham, AL, died Monday, December 13, 2010. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Everett Calvin Hammons. She was born in New Orleans, LA, and earned the Bachelor of Science Degree from Lamar University, Beaumont, TX, where she was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society. Thelma was an active member of Riverchase United Methodist Church in Hoover, AL, and the Seekers' Sunday School Class. She was also a long-time member of the Pink Ruffles Garden Club and Hoover New Horizons, and she participated in the Seniors Offering Support (S.O.S.) program. She had been employed by Sun Oil Company in Beaumont, TX, and by the Tuscaloosa County and Jefferson County boards of education. In her later years, Thelma enjoyed reading, painting, decorating, and writing. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Hammons Alexander (Walter) of Chelsea, AL; sister, Linda McGuire (Jerry) of Montgomery, TX; brother, George C. Rosentreter (June) of Oxford, MS; especially dear friends, Judy Underhill and her son, Mark; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 20, 2010 at Riverchase United Methodist Church with visitation immediately following at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Riverchase United Methodist Church Building Fund. The family is grateful for the concern and loving care given to Thelma by Dr. Joseph Hughes, his staff, New Beacon Hospice, Thelma's nurse Clay Wilder, and dear caretaker friends Rosetta Murphy and Shanta Tyson who helped her through a painful time.
