- Ruth Rosentreter
Oregonian, The (Portland, OR) - Wednesday, May 11, 2005
ROSENTRETER, RUTH September 25, 1919 - April 22, 2005. The memorial service for Ruth will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Rivercrest Community Church, 3201 NE 148th, Portland. Ruth Reutter was the youngest of eight children born to German immigrant parents. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1937 and remained a lifelong resident of NE Portland. During World War II she worked at Jantzen's Knitting Mills, sewing sleeping bags for servicemen. On April 22, 1945, Ruth married her soldier fiance, Roderick Rosentreter. They bought a house in the Grant neighborhood and raised three daughters. Ruth and Rod were an active outdoor family, always fishing, hunting, and camping. Their interest in gardening kept them busy as judges in the Portland Dahlia Society. In later years they enjoyed their beach house near Rockaway and traveled to every continent of the world. They were lifelong members of Immanuel Baptist Church. Ruth's husband, Rod, died in 1994 and Ruth moved to the Parkrose Chateau where she lived until her death. She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Kelly, Shirley Ochsner, and Valerie Campbell; grandchildren, Derek, Brad, Sarah, Charlie, and Max, and her great grandchildren, Hannah, Jaydea, and Ariana. Ruth died and was reunited with her husband, Rod, on the day of their 60th wedding anniversary. We rejoice knowing that they are celebrating together in heaven. "Do not grieve, for the Joy of the Lord is your strength." Nehemiah 8:10
