The first letter is addressed to . Erna Rosentreter (Sister in Law), lives in Lambrecht, Luhrbach 31! It is dated December 23, 1945 and reads: Dear Erna, I have been in Russian captivity since the surrender. I'm fine, I'm healthy too. I hope to survive the rest of the captivity well. I will hardly spend the next Christmas here. Your fate gives me a headache, especially since I don't know a thing about Mutti (Mother), Lisa and Georg. The future doesn't look bright either, but I'll make my way. If you haven't had any signs of life from Georg - he is probably in captivity here too. I wish you and little Jürgen the best. The second letter is addressed to the Karl Rosentreter family, living in Cottbus, Bautzener Strasse 157. It is dated December 23, 1945 and reads: Dear Aunt and dear Uncle! Hopefully these lines reach you. I have been in Russian captivity since the surrender. I am healthy and doing just fine. Since I have no news from you, Mutti (Mother), Lisa and Georg, I'm pretty worried! This Christmas is sad, but I firmly hope that I can spend the next one at home.
